Fiberdom ESG Policy

1. Introduction

Fiberdom exists to accelerate the shift away from non-essential plastics to fiber-based materials that can compete on performance and economics. Our patented technology transforms wood pulp and paperboard into high-performance materials that are recyclable, home-compostable, and suitable for food service applications, packaging, storage solutions, and core structures of furniture, interior design, and construction elements.

This ESG Policy outlines how we manage our environmental, social, and governance responsibilities as a Finnish materials innovation company.

2. Environmental Commitment

Fiber-Based, Plastic-Free Materials

  • Our flagship material, Duranova® contains no synthetic polymers and is made from responsibly sourced wood fibers.

  • We use only natural ingredients in our patented process—no PFAS, no harmful additives, and no synthetic binders or coatings.

  • Our first products, single use cutlery for consumer and b2b distribution, are third-party certified for home compostability, food-contact safety, and plastic-free status. Recyclability & Circularity

  • Duranova® is designed as a mono-material that can be recycled in standard paper and carton recycling streams.

  • Production scrap and process residues can be reused or recycled as part of our circular manufacturing design.

  • We will continuously test and validate recyclability through recognized European standards.

Regulatory Alignment

We proactively follow to EU and Finnish environmental law, and our Duranova® material is aligned and compliant with each of these:

  • EU Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUP)

  • EU Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)

  • EU Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (EMPCO)

  • EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)

  • Finnish environmental, waste, and occupational safety regulations

Climate Impact

We work to reduce emissions across our operations. Our first third-party verified product carbon footprint assessment (conducted by Reforest Finland Oy following GHG Protocol) establishes our baseline: 1.64 kg CO₂e per kg of finished cutlery (cradle-to-gate). Our manufacturing runs on green energy, resulting in zero fossil-based electricity emissions.

With this baseline established in 2024-2025, we are developing targeted reduction plans focused on our primary impact areas, particularly material procurement and energy and water efficiency. As we scale, we will expand from cradle-to-gate to cradle-to-grave analysis to measure the full lifecycle benefits of our materials compared to fossil-based plastics.

3. Social Responsibility

Fair & Safe Workplace

  • We uphold fair labour policies, voluntary employment, and equal opportunity for all.

  • We maintain a safe workplace, with training provided for each position across the entire company including, but not limited to, machine operation, chemical handling, and R&D procedures.

Employee Well-Being

We invest in personal growth, skills development, and well-being across the organization. We encourage people to take on new and challenging work, and we make sure the support is there so they can succeed.

This gives everyone the chance to stretch, grow, and build confidence in new areas. Open communication and collaboration are core to how we work.

Community & Partnerships

  • We collaborate with suppliers, customers, research institutions, and partners who share our values.

  • We engage openly with regulators, standardization bodies, and sustainability networks to advance responsible materials innovation.

4. Governance & Transparency

Strong Ethical Foundations

  • ESG oversight sits with the General Manager and is reviewed annually with the Board.

  • We maintain transparent reporting on sustainability, compliance, and certifications.

Responsible Sourcing

  • Fiber suppliers must meet strict sustainability requirements, including traceability and support for FSC® and EUDR compliance.

  • New suppliers undergo ESG screening,  with existing suppliers demonstrating full compliance on an annual basis.

Data Protection & Information Security

We safeguard personal data under GDPR and maintain secure systems for protecting customer and company information.

Continuous Improvement

We track and measure our performance through metrics such as:

  • Share of certified renewable inputs

  • Recyclability test results

  • Workplace safety indicators

  • Certification status (FSC®, TÜV, food-contact compliance)

Stakeholder feedback

2025 serves as our baseline year for ESG metrics tracking. Findings feed into annual ESG planning and product development.

5. Communication & Accountability

This ESG Policy is publicly available on Fiberdom’s website and shared with employees, suppliers, customers, and partners. We welcome stakeholder feedback and update the policy annually to reflect new science, legislation, and best practices.
