Welcome to the late Autumn edition of our 'Meet the Team' series.
If you’ve ever wondered how Fiberdom’s technology came to life — how wood fibers became something stronger, smarter, and ready to replace plastic — meet the person who made it possible: our Chief Technology Officer, Duncan Mayes.
Duncan’s fingerprints are on everything we do. He’s been with Fiberdom since the early days, leading the development of our patented supermaterial from lab-scale experiments to full-scale production. In fact, he’s the inventor behind four of our five patents — and still pushing the boundaries of what’s next.
What sets Duncan apart isn’t just his technical depth (though, with nearly 30 years in renewable materials innovation, there’s plenty of that). It’s how he bridges science and practicality — making sure that every breakthrough in the lab actually works in the real world.
As he often says,
“Innovation only matters if it’s scalable, compliant, and commercially viable.”
That perspective comes from decades of experience leading R&D and innovation across the global forest industry — from senior leadership roles at Stora Enso to advising companies worldwide on circular materials, biocomposites, and advanced wood technologies.
At Fiberdom, Duncan continues to turn bold ideas into practical impact. He leads with curiosity and precision, combining deep scientific understanding with a pragmatism that keeps us grounded and focused. He’s the reason our technology not only works — it scales.
When he’s not deep in development mode, you’ll probably find him outdoors — somewhere surrounded by the very forests that continue to inspire his work.
👏 Here’s to the quiet genius behind Fiberdom’s biggest breakthroughs — and the one constantly reminding us that the future of materials is already in our hands.
